Ball Mill

Ball Mill Overview

The Ball Mill is a robust and efficient grinding system used for reducing the particle size of materials by impact and attrition. It is a rotating cylindrical chamber partially filled with grinding media—such as ceramic, steel, or flint balls—that cascade and tumble to crush, grind, or blend materials. PM Industries’ Ball Mills are precision-engineered for dry and wet grinding processes in mineral processing, cement, paint, chemical, ceramic, pharmaceutical, and pigment industries. These mills are built with wear-resistant lining, heavy-duty drive systems, and automation options for consistent and repeatable performance.

Working Principle

The cylindrical drum of the ball mill rotates around its horizontal axis. As it turns, the grinding media are lifted on the rising side of the shell and then cascade down due to gravity. This motion results in size reduction of the material via impact and shear. Wet or dry grinding is possible, depending on the application. Ball Mills can also be jacketed for heating or cooling and operated under vacuum or inert atmosphere for reactive or volatile substances.
